The 52nd Ten Tors challenge took place on Dartmoor at the weekend. Run by the Army, the event involves thousands of students aged 14 to 19. Teams of six cover 35, 45 or 55 miles and are fully self-supporting, navigating their way around set routes within a specific time. It is a test of fitness, determination, organisation and navigation and there is no other event like it in the UK.
This year Plymouth College put in three teams (one in each category). All team members did an outstanding job in some very demanding conditions. Some had to drop out through injury, but those who remained showed commendable determination to stick it out and get to the finish. The 45-mile team deserve special mention as they were the fastest team on their particular route.
Lt Col Pete Lewis, Plymouth College CCF Contingent Commander and Ten Tors Co-ordinator, said: "Out of the total 2400 participants, more than 256 had to drop out through injury and 16 teams were unable to finish at all so the Plymouth College teams should be justifiably proud of their achievements."
