It was a rather murky Monday morning when Year 7 set off for the heart of Exeter. Upon arrival at the cathedral, the majesty and elegance of this gothic building was immediate.
The cathedral guide whisked the pupils off on an informative tour, the highlights of which included one of the earliest astronomical clocks dating back to 1484, the longest vaulted ceiling in the world at 96 metres and the hugely imposing bishop's chair. The best school group he had ever taken around the cathedral was praise indeed from the guide.
After lunch Year 7 visited the synagogue, tucked away from the main thoroughfares and with an unassuming entrance. Here they were party to a fascinating talk about the history of the Jewish community in Exeter. The students had the opportunity to wear the tallit, witness the ark being opened and to see the beautiful Torah scrolls.
A final photo opportunity outside the cathedral rounded off a thought provoking and informative day.
