Plymouth College elite diver, Victoria Vincent, 13, has won a gold medal for Great Britain at the Dresden International Diving Championships. Second only to the Junior World Championships, Dresden was host to 25 nations.
Competing in the Group B Platform event, Victoria had two exceptional optional dives to win the prelims with 349 points. In the final, a stunning opening dive gave her a score of 9 from two judges which she followed with a solid Back 2½ Somersault Piked to take a 10 point lead going into the final round. Victoria's final dive of a Forward 2½ Somersaults with 1 Twist Pike helped her to maintain that lead and she won gold with 340.40 points.
"I am very proud of Victoria for winning such a prestigious international competition," said her Dad, Ray Vincent. "Her win was all the more impressive because she was the youngest competitor - her coach had to get special permission for her to take part! On top of that she was ill just before the event so really has done incredibly well."
Fellow Plymouth College pupil, Francesca Del Celo, 18, won a bronze medal in the Group A 1m Springboard.
