Year 8 pupils have been treated to a visit by historians from Great Torrington to guide them through the trials and tribulations of life in Stuart England.
Master Christopher resolved problems with gall stones (thin metal pipe), constipation (larger metal pipe) and headaches (screwing into the head). Sir Basil explained the punishments awaiting culprits of poisoning (boiling alive), blasphemy (execution) and libel (loss of the libellous hand) - all rather gruesome and tortuous. Mistress Agnes explained how to tell a good suit of armour and how to wash and dress each day (generally not much washing, and re-wearing the same clothes!)
Head of History, Ed Beavington, said: "It was a wonderful day with lots of exciting information and stories absorbed."
