Children in the Reception classes at Plymouth College Preparatory School have been learning how to ride a bike with a fun activity called Balanceability.
Using bikes with no pedals, the sessions are constructed around games, challenges and new experiences to help the children develop confidence, co-ordination and dynamic balance.
"Learning how to ride a bike is a significant milestone in growing up and gives children their first taste of mobile independence," said Deputy Head, Sally Raymond-Jones. "It has been proven that the skills taught in Balanceability will also benefit a child's academic development so we decided to build it into the curriculum.
"The children are really enjoying it and can't wait to progress to the next stage, which will see them learn how to ride pedal bikes."
Balanceability is the UK's first and only accredited 'learn to cycle' programme for children. It is being run by eliteVELO, a fitness and cycle coaching company based at Crownhill Fort.
