Having enjoyed the delights of 6.30am runs on Dartmoor and three glorious days of sunshine allowing pre-season training to take place on grass, Plymouth College took two teams to the inaugural Truro School Indoor Cricket Tournament.
With a young B team, led well by Jay Warner, pushing a much more experienced Exeter School side close in the first game before narrowly losing, it became clear that the different skills required for the indoor game would need to be assimilated quickly if the teams were to be successful. The A team, captained by Tom Dinnis, started well recording two victories founded upon disciplined bowling and good fielding. The biggest challenge of the day came against Truro College, which saw the two teams play out an exciting tie, restricting the Cornish side to three runs from the last over.
Plymouth College's A and B teams met in the semi-final. The A team prevailed and played Exeter School in the final. Bowling first, the opposition batters began with a hiss and a roar scoring 39 off two overs before the Plymouth bowlers reined the batsmen back and maintained their discipline to give the batters 82 to win. Sensible, risk free batting from the top order meant that Plymouth were able to cruise home scoring the winning runs from the second ball of the final over to record a comprehensive victory.
